If you've ever experienced a buck in rut, you know it's a sight (and a smell) to behold. Some would say the whole process is disgusting, but it's an interesting courtship that involves intense flirting on both sides. Ultimately, you've got to admire a guy who will go to such lengths to woe the love of his life (or at least the love of his rut).

In any case, it is extremely important to have quality bucks. We put a great deal of research into choosing our bucks. We looked at pedigree, dairy character, dam's udder and overall conformity.

Our herd sires come from Poppy Patch (Montesano, WA), Pholia Farm (Rouge River, OR) & Wood Bridge Farm (South Salem, OH).

Pholia Farm KM Riot

Riot is a very friendly buck, which can be good and bad. Good when you need to show him, move him, or introduce him to a new doefriend. However, it's bad when he wants a head scratching, or rubs up against you. Riot comes from impressive stock. His littermate sister, Harriet, has a fantastic udder and is a top milker at Pholia Farm. His first daughters also look wonderful. Riot participated in his first buck show this summer and received 1st place in the show ring. We're looking forward to showing him in the upcoming year.

Poppy Patch PI Winchester

We referred to Winchester as Houdini during his first weeks at Caprinos. He just kept hopping fences to make his way down to the doe barn. Now we call him Whine-chester because he's constantly whining to the does. I guess he's just a ladies man at heart. Winchester is a beautiful buck. He has strong but refined bone structure and sharp lines with good angulation.

Poppy Patch RC Stowaway

When this buck first came to us as a little guy, his registered name seemed a little too big for him, so we started calling him Stewie. He is also known as Fancy Pants because his markings make it look like he's wearing little, brown pants. He is a very refined little man in both personality and appearance. Stewie has very nice conformity along with good genetics, with his dam having extremely strong mammary development.
